Signs your home needs a rewire
- Old rubber, fabric or lead-sheathed cables, or round-pin sockets
- No earth on lighting circuits, or metal light switches without an earth
- An old fuse box with rewireable fuses that has never been upgraded
- An EICR with several C2 items that point to old wiring rather than one fault
- Scorch marks, warm sockets or a burning smell
- You are renovating anyway, so walls and floors are already open
How a rewire works
- Survey and fixed quote. We walk through the property with you and agree where sockets, lights and switches go.
- First fix. New cables run in walls and under floors, with the old wiring removed or made dead.
- Second fix. Sockets, switches, lights and the consumer unit are connected.
- Test and certify. Every circuit is tested. You get an Electrical Installation Certificate and Building Regulations notification.
A flat usually takes three to five working days, a three-bed house about one to two weeks. Plastering and decorating afterwards are not included.

Rewire questions
How much does a rewire cost in Ealing?
From £3,800 for a 1-bed flat, £5,300 for a 2-bed, £7,600 for a 3-bed house and £9,900 for a 4-bed house. We confirm the price after a survey.
Can I stay in the house during a rewire?
Often yes, especially in a flat or if we work room by room, but expect dust and some days without power. We plan it with you at the survey.
Does a rewire include plastering?
No. We chase and fill cable routes neatly, but plastering and decorating are done by others afterwards.
Do I always need a full rewire?
Not always. If only some circuits are old or faulty, a partial rewire or a new consumer unit may be enough. An EICR tells you which.
